Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Maritime Systems, a specialized subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) that focuses on the construction of naval vessels, has delivered the new patrol vessel Hiroshima to the Japan Coast Guard (JCG).
The delivery ceremony was held on September 17 and attended by JCG officials, including Deputy Commissioner Wataru Sasaki, as well as representatives of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, including Yasushi Abe, general manager of the Naval and Special Machinery Division.
Hiroshima is the sixth 3,500-ton-class patrol vessel built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Maritime Systems, following the delivery of the lead ship Miyako to the JCG.
According to the shipbuilder, Hiroshima measures 120 meters in length and 14 meters in beam, with a gross tonnage of 3,500 tons.
Following commissioning, the patrol ship is scheduled to be assigned to the Hiroshima Coast Guard Office under the Sixth Regional Coast Guard Headquarters.
The vessel will carry out missions including territorial waters security, maritime search and rescue, law enforcement and marine environmental protection.
