QinetiQ has received a contract from General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) to deliver control hardware and software for the electromagnetic aircraft launch system (EMALS) and the advanced arresting gear (AAG) to be installed on the U.S. Navy’s next Ford-class aircraft carrier, the future Doris Miller (CVN 81).

This contract outlines a multi-year effort to update, acquire, assemble, and test hardware for launch and arresting control systems.

For over ten years, QinetiQ has been supporting GA-EMS and the U.S. Navy by supplying both hardware and software for the EMALS and the AAG system.

These systems have been developed for and installed on the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) and will be featured on future Ford-class carriers, including the John F. Kennedy (CVN 79) and Enterprise (CVN 80).

The development and production of this hardware and software will take place at QinetiQ’s facility in Franklin, Massachusetts.

Christopher Forrest , Executive Vice President of Advanced Robotics and Mission Solutions at QinetiQ emphasized that QinetiQ is “proud to extend our collaboration with General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems to provide essential technology for the fourth Ford-class ship, CVN 81” .
