The guided-missile destroyer USS Farragut (DDG 99) arrived in Gydnia, Poland, April 27, for a scheduled port visit.
The visit is aimed at enhancing US and Poland relations as the two nations work together for a stable, secure and prosperous Europe.
Gydnia is Farragut’s second port visit since departing on a scheduled deployment from Naval Station Mayport, April 11.
“We are not only privileged to be in Poland, but also grateful for the time we will spend alongside the people of Gydnia as we work together to promote security in the region,” Cmdr. Jason Lester , Farragut executive officer, said.
“Our presence in the Baltic is a reminder of our commitment to our NATO allies as we strive to maintain security and stability in the region,” Lester added.
During this visit, Farragut will host a reception aboard the ship. Farragut will also be providing transportation for its crew to enable sailors to see the sights of Gydnia.
Farragut is currently deployed as part of the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group. With USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) as the flagship, deployed strike group units include staffs, ships and aircraft of Carrier Strike Group Eight (CSG 8), Destroyer Squadron Two Eight (DESRON 28) and Carrier Air Wing One (CVW-1), as well as Sachsen-class German Frigate FGS Hessen (F221).
US Naval Forces Europe-Africa/US 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied and interagency partners, in order to advance US national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
