NATO’s anti-submarine warfare (ASW) exercise Dynamic Mongoose 2017 concluded in the North Atlantic Ocean on July 6.
Led by NATO’s Allied Maritime Command, the exercise gathered units from Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, the United Kingdom and the United States.
The exercise was also joined by NATO research vessel ALLIANCE, operated by the Italian Navy for the NATO Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE) based in La Spezia (Italy).
Host nation Iceland provided support from the Reykjavik Harbor and the Keflavik Air Base.
“Dynamic Mongoose provided us the opportunity to engage in realistic maritime training,” said Cmdr. Allen Siegrist , commanding officer, USS James E. Williams (DDG 95). “We enjoyed working with our NATO allies, and I am extremely proud of the way the crew performed during this exercise.”
Dynamic Mongoose 2017 also served to build interoperability and strengthened the enduring relationships among allied forces that participated.
“Dynamic Mongoose was an important exercise to sharpen and enhance our anti-submarine warfare capabilities with our NATO allies in the challenging maritime environment of the North Atlantic, ” said Rear Adm. Daryl Caudle , deputy commander, U.S. 6th Fleet. “This exercise demonstrates our ability to conduct anti-submarine warfare and prepares us to respond to emerging threats. Simply stated, Dynamic Mongoose improves our lethality in submarine warfare and ensures that we will maintain freedom of movement in the undersea domain.”
