A German Navy sailor has captured her walk through the German Navy U34 submarine on video which was then shared on social media.
The walkaround offers an insight into what life on a Type 212 A air-independent propulsion submarine might look like.
U 34 is currently home to 35 sailors who are engaged in the German-sponsored exercise Northern Coasts 2016 which is gathering up to 38 naval units, including submarines, from 16 NATO member states.
The advanced non-nuclear submarine can stay submerged for up to three weeks without resurfacing thanks to Siemens-developed proton exchange membrane (PEM) compressed hydrogen fuel cells.
The submarines are built by Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft AG (HDW) and are in use by the navies of Germany and Italy. Germany currently operates five Type 212 A submarines with a sixth unit planned for commissioning this year.
