EU Naval Force Somalia’s Force Commander, Royal Netherlands Navy Commodore Luyckx, took the opportunity to visit Operation Atalanta’s Italian warship, ITS Euro, recently.

After being welcomed onboard the Italian warship by her commanding officer, Commander Giuseppe Aletta, Commodore Luyckx was introduced to the crew and given a tour of the ship.

ITS Euro has been deployed on Operation Atalanta since April 2016 and recently she provided the World Food Programme chartered ship, MV Antaios, with an escort as the vessel transported humanitarian food aid along the Somali coastline.

Following the visit, ITS Euro returned to her duties in the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden where she is conducting patrols to deter and disrupt piracy.
