Whilst on a counter-piracy patrol off the coast of Somalia, Operation Atalanta warship, FGS Bayern, hosted the EU Naval Force Commander, Rear Admiral Gomez de Cordoba.
The Force Commander, who is embarked on board the EU flagship, ESPS Galicia, was flown on board by the ship’s helicopter.
After being welcomed on board by FGS Bayern’s commanding officer, Captain Fähnrich Faehnrich, Rear Admiral de Cordoba received a briefing on the achievements of the German Navy ship whilst deployed with Operation Atalanta.
The Force Commander thanked all the German crew for their achievements over the past four months in deterring piracy off the coast of Somalia and wished them a safe journey home to Germany in the coming weeks.
