Turkish Navy to Escort Cargo Ship Back to Turkey

Authorities

Turkish Navy frigate will escort a cargo ship back to Turkey after it suffered an attack off Libya.

The Turkish Government reported yesterday that the cargo vessel, named Tuna-1, was fired upon from land while it was sailing in international waters, 13 miles off Tobruk, on May 10.

Tuna-1 was on its way to Tobruk, Libya, to deliver plasterboard cargo loaded from Spain. The vessel was the target of two additional subsequent air attacks. One crew member was killed during the attacks, while some of the others were wounded.

Zeenews writes that a Libyan military spokesperson commented that the attack occurred after the Turkish ship ignored a warning not to approach the city of Derna, some 90 miles west of Tobruk.
