India’s Ministry of Defense has signed a contract with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) to procure BrahMos fire control systems and launchers for Indian Navy ships.
The contract, valued at Rs 661.50 crore (around $68 million), was signed in New Delhi on October 6 under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) procurement category.
The procurement includes BrahMos fire control systems and launchers intended for Indian Navy ships. The ministry said the project has a minimum indigenous content of 68% and will involve various Indian industries, including micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
The project is expected to generate employment over a three-year period and contribute to the Indian Navy’s maritime strike capabilities and the wider indigenization of defense technology.
The BrahMos system is deployed aboard various Indian Navy frontline warships and serves as the service’s primary surface-to-surface missile system for maritime strike operations. According to the ministry, the system can engage land and sea targets at extended ranges with high accuracy at supersonic speed.
