Over 4,000 sailors and marines from the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) embarked on Saturday on an eight-month deployment, bound for the U.S Navy’s 5th and 6th Fleet Areas of Responsibility.
Bataan ARG is comprised of amphibious dock-landing ship USS Gunston Hall (LSD 44), USS Bataan (LPD-5) and USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19) and is commanded by Capt. Neil A. Karnes, commodore, Amphibious Squadron (PHIBRON) 6.
USS Mesa Verde is the third San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock, USS Gunston Hall is a Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship while USS Bataan is a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship.
