Irish Naval Service Detains Fishing Vessel

Irish Naval Service Vessel L.É. AOIFE has detained a British registered fishing vessel approximately 11 nautical miles south of the Aran Islands on March 19. The detention was in relation to an alleged breach of fishing regulations. The vessel is currently under escort by the L.É. AOIFE to Rossaveal

Irish Naval Service Vessel L.É. AOIFE has detained a British registered fishing vessel approximately 11 nautical miles south of the Aran Islands on March 19.

The detention was in relation to an alleged breach of fishing regulations.

The vessel is currently under escort by the L.É. AOIFE to Rossaveal, Co Galway and arrived alongside around 8 pm that very evening. Upon arrival the vessel was handed over to the Gardaí Síochána.

There have been 206 vessels boarded by the Naval Service in 2013, 6 warnings were issued and this is the first vessel detained this year.
