Sailors and Marines aboard amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) arrived in Guam for a scheduled port visit Sept. 26.
After spending a month underway in the Western Pacific, approximately 2,800 Sailors and Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit will have an opportunity to experience the local culture, see the island and enjoy some well-deserved relaxation.
“This will be my first time visiting Guam so I’m looking forward to seeing the tropical blue waters I’ve heard so much about,” said Yeoman 3rd Class Andrew Steinke . “I plan to wear sandals, get some sun on the beach and eat some good food!”
Sailors and Marines from the 31st MEU completed Amphibious Integration Training (AIT) and certification exercise (CERTEX) while underway.
“We’ve been working long hours every day of the week so it will be great to be off the ship,” said Marine Sgt. Adrian Richards . “I’m pretty excited because I have never been to Guam. I am looking forward to this.”
Bonhomme Richard, commanded by Capt. Daniel Dusek , is the lead ship of the only forward-deployed ARG and is currently operating in the 7th Fleet Area of Operations.
