The Omiš class coastal patrol vessel is a new addition to the Croatian Navy, designed to enhance the capabilities of the Croatian Coast Guard in securing the country’s maritime interests.

Following the delivery of the prototype vessel, which entered service under the name Omiš, this patrol ship marks the second of five units under contract by Brodosplit Shipyard for the Croatian Ministry of Defense.

The Omiš class vessel is a versatile and advanced platform, equipped with a variety of systems to improve maritime security. The new ships have a length of 43.16 meters and a width of 8 meters. With a range of 1,000 nautical miles, each boat will have a crew of 17 people.

The class features a remotely controlled weapon station with a 30mm automatic cannon, 12.7mm machine guns, and portable anti-aircraft missile systems. With a maximum speed of 28 knots, the vessel’s two powerful 2525 kW engines ensure optimal performance in coastal operations, according to Brodosplit.

The vessel’s design also incorporates modern safety and defense features, including complete nuclear-biological-chemical protection, a decontamination station, and the ability for hermetic sealing. It is also equipped with advanced surveillance systems, such as high-resolution day cameras, thermal cameras, and night vision binoculars, for effective target detection and tracking.

Furthermore, the ship can deploy a fast, rigid-hulled jet boat for special forces operations, capable of reaching speeds over 40 knots. Additionally, the vessel has a firefighting monitor for offshore and onshore emergencies to increase its operational capacity.

The project represents a significant leap forward in Croatia’s naval defense capabilities, continuing the modernization efforts to protect the nation’s maritime domain.
