TKMS hands over third MEKO A-200 frigate to Egypt

German shipbuilding company thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) has handed over the third MEKO A-200 EN frigate to the Navy of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

As informed, the frigate Al-Qadeer was delivered on December 16. The vessel is the third out of four new MEKO frigates TKMS is constructing for the Egyptian Navy. The second frigate was delivered in May this year.

“After production work began in autumn 2020, the construction and delivery of the frigates were carried out in record time. The new vessels will play a key role in the Egyptian Navy’s fleet and belong to the most powerful ships in service today,” TKMS noted in a social media post.

The MEKO A-200 EN frigates are more than 121 metres long, 16 metres wide and have a maximum speed of more than 29 knots.

Featuring a stealthy design, the frigates are dedicated to taking on the role of the new central combat platform of the Egyptian Navy. Each ship will possess an extensive range of both defensive and offensive capabilities.

The fourth vessel will be constructed at Alexandria Shipyard in Egypt.
