Shipbuilder Babcock Canada has signed a Technical Cooperation Agreement with Hanwha Ocean to collaborate on the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP).

The CPSP was established by the Canadian Department of National Defence to research procurement options for its next generation submarine.

This Technical Cooperation Agreement enables both leading marine organizations to share their respective capabilities in shipbuilding and submarine sustainment in support of the CPSP and the current Victoria In Service Suppport Contract (VISSC).

Hanwha Ocean, formerly known as DSME, will leverage its design, construction, and logistics support capabilities while Babcock will contribute its expertise in providing in-service support and sustainment of Canada’s Victoria Class submarines, which it has been doing since 2008.

“The CPSP will play an important role in modernizing the Royal Canadian Navy’s defence capabilities. Our collaboration with Babcock will enable us to support the Royal Canadian Navy by delivering advanced, reliable, and highly capable submarines that meet Canada’s needs,” Yong Ook Lee said.
