Speaking on the occasion, Vice admiral Deshmukh, stated: “It is a noteworthy achievement by the shipyard and commended professionalism displayed by all.”

Apart from the keel laying, the company also hosted a steel-cutting ceremony for the sixth and seventh ASW SWC.

The steel-cutting event and commencement of fabrication of any warship signifies an important milestone, as this occasion is a culmination of the preparatory process and kickstarts the construction phase of the ship, the company noted.

The navy officials emphasized that the construction of these vessels is a significant boost for the “Aatma Nirbhar Bharat” and India’s “Make in India” commitment.

The units are expected to enhance the navy’s anti-submarine warfare capabilities and will serve the country in safeguarding maritime interests.

The keel-laying ceremony for the second and third ASW SWC was held at Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) shipyard in June this year.
