Donated ROK Navy corvette setting sail for the Philippines

The Philippine Navy amphibious landing dock ship Davao Del Sur (LD602) has arrived at Republic of Korea (ROK) Navy base Jinhae from where it is set to escort the former Korean corvette Chungju (PCC-762) to its new homeport in the Philippines.

The amphibious ship, which sailed to South Korea after taking part in the Russian Navy Day Celebration in July, is set to get underway from South Korea with the corvette on August 5.

As it entered Philippine Navy service, the refurbished ship became the BRP Conrado Yap (PS-39). It is worth noting that the vessel was officially donated to the Philippines in 2014.

South Korea has also donated Pohang-class corvettes to Egypt, Vietnam and Peru as it replaces the vessel class with newer and more capable FFX frigates.

The future BRP Conrado Yap will measure 88 meters in length, displace 1,216 tons and have a crew of 118. It will carry two Oto Melara 76mm main guns, 30mm automatic cannon, and anti-submarine torpedoes.
