While the fire was quickly brought under control by the ship’s crew, ten sailors were injured after inhaling smoke.

According to the German Navy, the fire broke out in an electric panel. The F123 frigate returned to her homeport in Kiel immediately after the fire was contained.

Repairs are currently underway and the frigate is expected to be ready to return to sea next week, the navy said noting that six out of nine German Navy frigates are deployable.

Schleswig-Holstein is the second of four Brandenburg-class ASW frigates built between 1992 and 1995.
