US Navy’s newest Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Ralph Johnson (DDG 114) arrived in Manzanillo, Mexico, for a port visit on April 10.

The destroyer is en route to its new homeport after entering US Navy service in a ceremony in Charleston, South Carolina, on March 24.

Ralph Johnson is the first navy ship to bear this name and is headed to her future homeport of Everett, Washington.

While in Manzanillo, crew members will have a chance to participate in various activities to build upon friendships and experience the rich culture of Mexico.

Planned engagements include a beach and mangrove area clean-up, and tours for senior Mexican naval officials, Mexican Navy and marine personnel, and US embassy personnel stationed in Mexico.

“We’re honored to be part of Ralph Johnson’s first crew, making the journey from Pascagoula to the West Coast of the US,” Cmdr. Jason Patterson, Ralph Johnson commanding officer said. “The crew is very excited to visit Manzanillo. It’s a great opportunity for the crew to meet locals, try local food, and get involved in the community.”
