The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Porter (DDG 78) arrived in Cherbourg, France, on April 7 for a scheduled port visit.

The visit is aimed at enhancing US-France relations as the two nations work together to strengthen regional security and stability.

During Porter’s time in Cherbourg, the crew will be participating in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Normandy American Cemetery and beach cleanup projects at the Utah Beach Museum and the Pointe Du Hoc Beach.

Porter, forward-deployed to Rota, Spain, is conducting naval operations in the US 6th Fleet area of operations. The ship departed Naval Station Rota on April 2, 2018.

US 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied and interagency partners, in order to advance the country’s interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
