The Indian Navy has awarded Tata a contract to deliver portable diver detection sonar (PDDS) for its ships.

Tata will be manufacturing the sonars at its Bengaluru site under a transfer of technology agreement with Israeli defense company DSIT.

This is the second contract to be signed by the Indian Navy under the ‘Buy and Make (Indian)’ category to boost India’s defense indigenisation effort.

The first contract under this category was signed earlier this year by the Indian Navy for supply of surface surveillance radar for Indian Navy warships.

Tata has earlier partnered with Danish aerospace, defense, and security company Terma announced for the surface surveillance radar project.
