The Turkish-built SMASH 30mm naval gun was introduced to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency’s first-of-class New Generation Patrol Craft, according to gun manufacturer Aselsan.

Aselsan said the weapon was inducted on April 20, 2017, after completing trials.

The company further noted this was the very first delivery of this system to the South East Asia Region.

In the scope of the agreement, each of the six Malaysian New Generation Patrol Craft will be integrated with the 30mm SMASH systems.

SMASH is a multipurpose remote controlled weapon system fitted with a 30mm Mk44 Bushmaster-II canon. According to the manufacturer, the system is capable of firing 200 rounds per minute with its dual feed 30mm automatic cannon.
