MAN to provide GenSets for Italian PPAs

Authorities

MAN Diesel & Turbo has received a contract to supply the first shipset (plus an option for six more, to be confirmed) of GenSets for the Italian Navy multipurpose, offshore patrol vessel program.

Each vessel will feature four 12V175D GenSets, each delivering 1,640 kW. The newbuilds have been ordered as part of the Italian Navy’s “Programma d iRinnovamento” – fleet renewal plan.

Lex Nijsen, Head of Four-Stroke Marine, MAN Diesel & Turbo said: “We already have several 175D test installations in operation but this is really the breakthrough for the engine. Its excellent performance data and fuel consumption figures have created huge interest in the market and we are looking forward to following its development.”

PPA (multipurpose offshore patrol ship) vessels will be built by Fincantieri and the first delivery is scheduled for 2021, with subsequent deliveries in 2022, 2023, 2024 (two units) 2025 and 2026.

Each PPA is 133 m long between perpendiculars, has a top speed of over 32 knots, and can host a crew up to 180 persons. MAN said that its 175D GenSets will, on account of the demanding operating conditions, feature double-elastic mounting and, in the aft machinery room only, sound enclosures.
