Russian Navy’s Black Sea Fleet rescue forces recently held an exercise on searching and providing assistance to a simulated disabled submarine.

In the course of the exercise, aircraft crews practiced searching procedures of the “disabled” submarine. Tasked with simulated a submarine in distress was the Russian Navy Kilo-class submarine Novorossiysk, often dubbed as the “quietest submarine in the world”.

The rescuers practiced evacuating the submarine crew to the rescue tug boat, assessed the condition of sections and hull of the “disabled” submarine, and towed it to the base port.

In total, 10 different ships and vessels, an AN-26 aircraft and a Ka-27PS navy helicopter were involved in the exercise.
