The German Navy replenishment ship EGV Bonn will depart its homeport of Wilhelmshaven on January 9 to join NATO’s Standing NATO Maritime Group 2.

Commanded by Rear Admiral Jörg Klein, the crew of EGV Bonn will take part in several international maneuvers during their upcoming deployment.

Looking forward to the tasks ahead, Rear Admiral Klein said: “I will be leading the SNMG2 in the following six months. In the next days and weeks, ships from other NATO countries will be joining us for the deployment in the Mediterranean.”

The ship’s commander further said that in 2015, the EGV Bonn had shown her readines for the first time as it completed a demanding deployment readiness program.

“Men and women on board EGV Bonn are highly motivated and are looking forward to fulfilling the duties of an SNMG2 flagship”, said Klein.

EGV Bonn is expected to return to Wilhelmshaven, Germany at the end of June, 2016.
