The U.S. Navy’s Naval Sea Systems Command has awarded Raytheon’s Integrated Defense Systems division a $255.28 million modification to a previously awarded contract to procure mission system equipment for the future USS Lyndon B. Johnson (DDG 1002).

USS Lyndon B. Johnson is the U.S. Navy’s third and last ship of the Zumwalt-class destroyer which is being built by Bath Iron Works in Maine, USA.

The ship was named after the 36th President of the United States who served from 1963 to 1969.

Earlier this year, there have been talks on cancelling the third destroyer when the Pentagon set up an independent cost-assessment office that was to make a decision on cancelling the build even though the ship was already under construction.

If all options of the contract, which can be regarded as a confirmation that the ship will be built after all, are exercised the value of the award would be brought to $349,24 million. Work will be performed in Portsmouth and Maryland, and is expected to be completed in 2019.
