Eight Nations will participate in the Maritime Theater Missile Defense (MTMD) Forum-led Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) At Sea Demonstration (ASD) 2015 this month.

The MTMD Forum consists of 10 nations: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Spain, United Kingdom, and the United States.

For this year’s ASD, eight nations will provide ships and/or aircraft, namely Canada, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Spain, United Kingdom, and the United States.

Germany will provide personnel to augment the Forum’s multi-national Combined Task Group staff, while Australia is not participating in ASD-15.

Vice Adm. James Foggo III, commander, U.S. 6th Fleet, said:

To remain proficient, we must practice unified, decisive, and timely command and control. Continuous training also hones our operational tactics, techniques, and procedures, which helps us achieve the level of readiness required to execute such a demanding fast-paced mission as BMD.

During ASD-15, a sea-based coalition force will practice defense against simultaneous anti-ship and ballistic missile threats with coordinated command and control. The task group will be commanded by Commodore Frank Sijtsma, Royal Netherlands Navy.
