DCNS: Assembly of GOWIND Corvette for Egypt Begins

The first block of Egyptian Navy’s future GOWIND 2500 Corvette has been put together at DCNS Lorient, September 30.

According to DCNS, the first block of the Gowind 2500 corvette has been positioned marking the start of the assembly process of the corvette’s hull.

The construction phase of the corvette began on April 15, 2015, and is expected to conclude in 2017, when the vessel is scheduled for delivery.

This is the first of four corvettes to be delivered to the Egyptian Navy. The following three corvettes will be built in Alexandria, Egypt, as a part of the transfer of construction technology.

The Gowind 2500 corvette is the result of latest technological advances of DCNS. The vessel integrates the SETIS combat system and complements 65 crew members. The corvette is 102 meters long and can reach a maximum speed of 25 knots.
