USS Anzio’s CO Relieved of Duties

Authorities

The commanding officer of the guided-missile cruiser USS Anzio (CG 68) based at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia, was relieved of his duties today by Commander, Carrier Strike Group 8, Rear Adm. Bret Batchelder.

Capt. Brian K. Sorenson was relieved of his duties by Batchelder due to loss of confidence in his ability to command following preliminary findings of an on-going investigation into allegations of personal misconduct.

Capt. Frank Castellano, commanding officer of USS Vella Gulf (CG 72), assumed command.

Sorenson assumed command of USS Anzio in November 2014 and has been reassigned to Commander, Naval Surface Force, Atlantic.
