Authorities

The Peruvian Navy, in cooperation with the Peruvian Coast Guard, seized 211 kg of illegal narcotics found aboard a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) carrier headed for Manzanillo, Mexico.

During an inspection, ordered by the Port of Pisco, Peru, on September 8, the officials searched the LNG carrier “Hispania Spirit” which was anchored in the bay.

The packages with the drug were found near the rudder of the vessel, and subsequent testing revealed that the substance tested positive as cocaine.

A Venezuelan citizen aboard the vessel, who was not part of the crew, has been identified as the suspect. It is unknown whether any of the crew members were involved in the incident.
