HMS Pembroke to Support the Scottish Airshow

Authorities

Royal Navy minehunter HMS Pembroke sails to Ayr at approximately 3pm on Thursday, September 3 in support of the Scottish Airshow.

The Sandown Class Mine Counter Measures Vessel will be berthed at Compass Pier and will be open to visitors on Saturday, September 5.

A capability demonstration will take place on the beach at Low Green, prior to the start of the airshow.

It involves Royal Marines from Faslane-based 43 Commando Fleet Protection Group and soldiers of the Scottish & Northern Irish Yeomanry playing the role of pirates.

They will engage in a dynamic firefight showcasing the versatile capability of maritime forces in combating piracy.

The exciting scenario will include fire support from two offshore raiding craft, a Merlin helicopter from Culdrose-based 824 Naval Air Squadron and simulated naval gunfire from a Royal Navy destroyer sitting just over the horizon.
