Spanish Navy’s Frigate Joins SNMG2

The Spanish Navy’s frigate ‘Santa María’ (F-81), along with the AOR ‘Cantabria’, recently deployed from Rota Naval Base towards Majorca where they joined the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG-2).

As of July 17th, the SNMG-2 is made up of the German frigate ‘Hamburg’, the US Navy destroyer ‘Donald Cook’, the Canadian frigate ‘Winnipeg’ and the 2 Spanish Navy warships.

The ‘Santa María’ will participate in the international counter-terrorist operation ‘Active Endeavor’ (OAE) in the Mediterranean. She is scheduled to visit the ports of Aksaz (Turkey) and Tunis (Tunisia).

For this deployment, the ‘Santa María’ has embarked a helicopter from the 10th Aircraft Squadron and a Marine Corps Security Team.
