Canada Awards CCGS Griffon Refit Deal

Authorities

Government of Canada has awarded a $2.7 million contract to Heddle Marine Service Incorporated for important refit and maintenance work for the CCGS Griffon.

The CCGS Griffon is a high-endurance multi-tasked vessel and light icebreaker based in Prescott, Ontario. This year, the Griffon celebrates its 45th year of service in the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) fleet.

Funding for this project is provided under the Federal Infrastructure Initiative announced in November 2014. Under this initiative, the Canadian Coast Guard received $183 million for repair, life extension, and procurement of vessels and small craft.

Maintenance work includes the overhaul of the second main engine, bow thruster, and inspection of the main circuit breaker. In addition, the radar system and main switchboard panels will be replaced.

Work is scheduled to begin in July 2015, and to be completed by September 2015.
