US, Romanian Naval Ships Engage in PASSEX

Authorities

The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Porter completed a passing exercise with the Romanian naval ship ROS Marcellariu (265) July 14, 2015, in the Black Sea.

During this PASSEX, Porter and Marcellariu conducted flag hoisting drills, flashing light drills, basic ship maneuvers, small boat operations that involved exchange of personnel, a close-in-weapons-system live fire; a visit, board search and seizure training evolution and finally a photo exercise with ships sailing in formation.

Cmdr. Blair H. Guy, USS Porter commanding officer, said:

This was a professional exchange between Navies and contributed to increased warfighting capabilities for both Porter and Marcellariu.

USS Porter (DDG 78), forward-deployed to Rota, Spain, is on a routine patrol conducting naval operations with allies and partners in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in order to advance security and stability in Europe.
