USS Momsen Sets Sail after 18 Month Rest

For the first time since December 2013, the guided missile cruiser USS Momsen (DDG 92) got underway under her own power, June 18.

This momentous occasion marks the end of a lengthy repair period and the start of a very exciting time in Momsen’s life. The success of the ship throughout an extensive dry-docking maintenance period followed by Main Reduction Gear (MRG) repairs is a testament to the crew’s strength and ability to persevere.

After 10 long months in dry dock at Vigor Shipyard in Seattle, Momsen returned to Naval Station Everett to begin a four month, emergent MRG repair.

Throughout the time in dry dock, the ship’s crew expended more than 42,000 man hours in support of 530 major work items. During Momsen’s time pier side, the crew completed many basic phase training events including engineering plant Light-Off Assessment, search and rescue certification, medical certification and basic combat training.

Ahead of Momsen is several months of trials, tests, and inspections, all designed to prepare the ship for a deployment sometime next year.
