Authorities

Spanish Navy’s patrol vessel ‘Arnomendi’ has just returned to her home port in Cartagena after deploying in the Mediterranean Sea monitoring the International Bluefin Tuna Campaign as part of the 2015 Fisheries Surveillance Plan.

The ‘Arnomendi’ carried out maritime surveillance and inspection tasks, monitoring the seasonal fishing campaign of the Bluefin Tuna. To this end, four national and two international inspectors embarked on the Spanish patrol boat under direct coordination with EFCA (European Fisheries Control Agency).

The vessel patrolled the fishing grounds around the Balearic Islands, Tarragona and Murcia. In the middle of the campaign, the ‘Arnomendi’ docked in Ibiza on June 9th and 10th where the inspectors were relieved.

The ‘Arnomendi’ identified, verified and inspected 52 trawlers fishing in the designated area; 9 possible infringements were reported.
