USNS Spearhead Concludes Exercise Saharan Express 2015

The Military Sealift Command’s joint high-speed vessel USNS Spearhead (JHSV 1), along with its embarked detachment of U.S. Navy Sailors and civil service mariners, departed Dakar, Senegal, after completing its participation in Exercise Saharan Express 2015, April 27.

The recently-concluded Saharan Express is one of Africa Partnership Station’s premier Express-series exercises. This U.S. Africa Command-sponsored multinational maritime exercise is designed to increase maritime safety and security in the waters off of West Africa.

Spearhead functioned as a training platform for maritime forces during Saharan Express 2015, as well as embarked Saharan Express assessors from various outlets.

A total of nine ships and four maritime patrol aircraft from participating countries took part in various phases of the exercise.
