Belgian Navy Adds New Patrol Vessel to Its Fleet

The Belgian Navy expanded its fleet with a new patrol vessel P901 Castor. The vessel was christened and officially put into service on 10 July.

The new commander, Lieutenant Commander Sea Dirk Demedts first class, together with the crew, boarded the new ship.

Castor is an important milestone in the modernization of the Belgian monitoring and intervention capacity in the North Sea.

According to the quartermaster chief, Castor will have a satisfactory performance on rough seas because of its ultra-modern engines which will ensure high speed and are more efficient than the engines in the current patrol vessels.

The second patrol ship, the P902 Pollux, will soon be joining the Navy.
