GDEB, US Navy Ink Ohio Replacement Submarine Contract

General Dynamics Electric Boat has signed a contract with the US Navy under which General Dynamics will continue development of the Common Missile Compartment for the Ohio replacement submarine and the UK’s Successor ballistic-missile submarine. 


USNS Millinocket Passes Acceptance Trials

The future Spearhead-class Joint High Speed Vessel USNS Millinocket passed acceptance trials on January 10, 2014. The trials that tested all systems of the ship were conducted at the Austal USA shipyard located in Mobile, Al., and showed that there were no major issues with the vessel’s functioning. 


Russian Corvettes Ready to Enter Service

Russian two new missile corvettes have completed acceptance trials and are ready to enter service in the Caspian Flotilla, writes RIA Novosti. The new Buyan-M class ships, named Uglich and Grad Sviyazhsk, started sea trials in August and completed Kalibr-NK missiles tests during the trials. 


Saab’s Sea Giraffe Gets Official Designation from US Navy

Saab’s Sea Giraffe AMB Radar has received its official designation from the U.S. Navy, its official nomenclature now being the AN/SPS-77 (V)1, Saab Defense and Security USA (SDAS) announced.  


Japanese Warship Collides with Fishing Boat

A Japanese warship named Osumi collided with a fishing boat this morning off the coast of Hiroshima, the Times of Malta reports. Two of four crewmembers of the fishing boat are in a critical condition after the collision, which sank the boat.


USA: MV Cape Ray Departs for Final Sea Trials

MV Cape Ray departed Portsmouth, Va., on 10 January for final sea trials in preparation for the UN mission to destroy Syrian chemical weapons. MV Cape Ray is a Roll-on/roll of and container ship of the US Navy, which can carry 1,315 containers.
