India to Issue Six Submarines Tender

The Indian Navy is gearing up to issue a USD 7.9 Billion tender to build six cutting-edge conventional submarines.

The Defense Acquisition Council had recently approved the proposal to be taken up by the Navy before the Committee on Security, and once the signal from the Committee comes, the tender will be issued, Navy Chief Vice Admiral R. K. Dhowan said yesterday, The New Indian Express writes.

The Navy is currently with one submarine less, the submarine, which was commissioned into the fleet on 24th December 1997, INS Sindhurakshak.

As reported last month, the Indian Navy submarine INS Sindhurakshak exploded and sunk.

INS Sindhurakshak was Russian-made Kilo-class submarine, and the ninth of the ten Indian Navy submarines of the class.
