USS George Washington CSADD Participate in CFAY Turkey Bowl

The U.S. Navy’s forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS George Washington’s (CVN 73) chapter of Coalition of Sailors Against Destructive Decisions (CSADD) participated in Fleet Activities Yokosuka’s CSADD chapter’s 2012 flag football ‘Turkey Bowl’ at Fleet Activities Yokosuka Nov. 25.

The game, like all CSADD events, was organized to encourage Sailors to promote and live a positive way of life during a fast-paced tour aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier.

“It’s great to come back after three months at sea and have an event that promotes sportsmanship, as well as allows the opportunity to intermingle with other CSADD chapters’ Sailors and their families,” said Electronics Technician 2nd Class Arlene Narciso, from Lihue, Hawaii, George Washington’s CSADD chapter president.

Sailors from the CSADD chapters and their families had time to meet and discuss future CSADD events after the game.

“I’m a football fanatic and I have a passion for it so I went to our CSADD president and I told her it would be great to plan this event,” said Aviation Boatswains Mate (Handling) Airman Ronell Day, from New Orleans. “With the help of CSADD we organized this event that helped us interact with Sailors from the ship and shore commands while forming camaraderie and teamwork.”

CSADD offers Sailors opportunities to take part in events that are not destructive or a threat to good order and discipline. With George Washington’s 2012 patrol at its end, CSADD is planning more events that offer George Washington Sailors a chance to take part in more recreational activities.

“We’re planning a basketball game, a volleyball game and a few community service events,” said Day. “We’re all out here having a good time, everyone is enjoying themselves and everyone is coming together without the use of alcohol.”

George Washington and its embarked air wing, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5, provide a combat-ready force that protects and defends the collective maritime interest of the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Asia-Pacific region.
