Indian Navy Takes Over Third Shivalik Class Stealth Frigate "Sahyadri"

Adding another feather to its cap, Mazagon Dock Limited, Master Shipbuilder to the Nation delivered the third Shivalik Class Stealth Frigate “Sahyadri” to the Indian Navy.

Acceptance documents for the Yard-12637 were exchanged between Rear Admiral R K Shrawat, CMD, MDL and Rear Admiral S P Lal, CSO (Tech), HQWNC on 25 June 2012 in the presence of Commander P R Raghunath, Director (Shipbuilding) and Commodore A K Saxena, Warship Production Superintendent (Mumbai). Sahyadri is the third and last of the ships under Project-17. She is likely to be commissioned into the fleet by the third week of July, 2012.

The 143 meter-long warship with 6,000 tonnes displacement, has versatile control systems with signature management including radar cross-section reduction features. The Shivalik Class frigates will be followed by the P-15A class destroyers, now under outfitting at MDL.
