Sri Lankan Navy Rescues Critically Ill Fisherman

Naval vessel P 414 attached to the Eastern Naval Command rescued a critically ill fisherman on 26th February 2012 in the eastern seas. The patient, who was suffering from a severe heart pain while at mid-sea, was brought ashore and transferred to the Trincomalee Base Hospital for medical treatment.

The rescued is the skipper of the fishing boat “Hondaputha”, which had a crew of 06 onboard. The incident was reported by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources asking assistance from SLN to bring the patient ashore as soon as possible due to his critical condition at sea 60 nautical miles from land. Accordingly, the Naval Headquarters directed the Eastern Naval Command to dispatch an SLN vessel on the rescue mission. Naval personnel provided the patient with emergency medical care and took maximum precaution to transfer him safely ashore for further treatment.
