Volunteer Intakes of Sri Lanka Navy Pass Out at SLNS Parakumba in Sampoor

Four hundred and twenty-three (423) recruits belonging to the 206th Regular Intake and 2011/1 Volunteer Intake of the Sri Lanka Navy passed out at SLNS Parakumba in Sampoor on 18th February 2012. Director General Logistics and Secretary of the Navy Rear Admiral Shemal Fernando graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and took the salute.

The 206th Regular Intake, which comprised of 355 recruits, was trained at SLNS Parakumba in Sampoor while the 2011/1 Volunteer Intake, which comprised of 68 recruits, was trained at SLNS Thakshila in Welisara.

Awards were presented to sailors who showed excellence during their training. In the 206th Regular Intake Recruit KDCS Siriwardene clinched the award for the Best Recruit. Recruit HML Prasanna won the award for the Best Marksman and Recruit ARDAS Ramanayake won the award for the highest aggregate score in all subjects. The Best Sportsman award went to Recruit DUS Upatissa.

In the 2011/1 Volunteer Intake, Woman Recruit WSM Salgado won the award for the Best Recruit while Woman Recruit AWP Liyanage received the award for the highest aggregate score in all subjects. Recruit R Sandamal was the Best Marksman and Recruit EDMP Edirisinghe was the Best Sportsman.
