L3Harris Technologies has received a $139 million award from the US Naval Sea Systems Command for the continued delivery of low-profile masts (LPM) for Virginia- and Columbia-class submarines.
The LPM systems use telescoping arms fitted with high-definition visible and infrared imaging sensors, replacing traditional hull-penetrating periscopes on submarines. The systems provide 360-degree visibility and are designed to support the navy’s optical and sensor capabilities.
The latest award continues L3Harris’ work on the LPM program for the US Navy. Under the award, the company will provide engineering support for the LPM Type 20 and Type 24 systems as the program’s prime contractor and design agent.
