HII’s ROMULUS unmanned surface vessel (USV) program has reached another major construction milestone with the completion of the structural build of its first ROMULUS 151 hull.

Working in partnership with Breaux Brothers Enterprises in New Iberia, Louisiana, the teams have also successfully flipped the vessel, a key step in the construction process. The milestone clears the way for the next phase of work, including the construction of the USV’s deck and pilothouse.

The partners have a total of five ROMULUS 151 vessels currently under construction, four at Breaux Brothers and one at Halimar Shipyard of Morgan City, Louisiana.

HII noted that  this milestone reflects the power of industry collaboration in accelerating the delivery of advanced autonomous maritime systems. Breaux Brothers’ craftsmanship and shipbuilding expertise, combined with HII’s autonomous technology leadership, are driving ROMULUS production forward at scale.

ROMULUS is a modular family of AI-enabled unmanned surface vessels built on HII’s open-architecture Odyssey Advanced Autonomy Solutions. The USVs are designed to meet current and future operational requirements of the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, joint forces, and allied partners.

The platform can support a broad range of missions, including intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), mine countermeasures, strike operations, and counter-unmanned systems missions. ROMULUS vessels can also launch and recover unmanned underwater and aerial vehicles, further expanding their operational capabilities.

To remind, HII introduced ROMULUS USVs in September last year.
