India’s Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), a state-owned defense shipbuilder, and global maritime classification and advisory organisation DNV have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate on advanced warships, sustainable technologies, digital shipbuilding and skills development.
As informed, the MOU was signed on September 2, 2026, during the SMM Hamburg Maritime Trade Fair in Germany.
The MoU combines GRSE’s expertise in warship design, shipbuilding and marine engineering with DNV’s capabilities in classification, certification, technical assurance, digitalisation, sustainability and maritime advisory services.
Under the agreement, the two organisations will cooperate on the development of advanced warships and specialised vessels, as well as green shipping and sustainable technologies.
The collaboration will also cover digital shipbuilding, artificial intelligence and Industry 4.0, alongside skills development, training and knowledge exchange.
The partnership is expected to strengthen GRSE’s capabilities in digitalisation, green technologies and advanced shipbuilding practices. It is also intended to support India’s ability to undertake technologically advanced defence and commercial shipbuilding projects.
