The Philippine Navy has marked the arrival of the second Miguel Malvar-class frigate, BRP Diego Silang.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) welcomed the vessel at the Naval Operating Base in Subic, Zambales, on September 15, 2025.
In a statement, the AFP said the event was led by its Chief of Staff, General Romeo Brawner Jr. , Philippine Navy head Vice Admiral Jose Ma. Ambrosio Ezpeleta , and Captain John Percie Alcos , the commanding officer of the Diego Silang.
BRP Diego Silang, built by South Korean shipbuilding heavyweight HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI), was launched in March this year. The ship is named after Diego Silang, a leader of the Philippine independence movement who resisted Spanish rule and established an independent province.
The frigates are next-generation warships that are 118.4 meters long, with a range of 4,500 nautical miles, a cruising speed of 15 knots, and a maximum speed of 25 knots. Armed with advanced sensors and weapons systems, they are capable of anti-ship, anti-submarine, and anti-aircraft missions.
The first ship in this class, Miguel Malvar, was delivered this April.

The frigate are expected to strengthen the country’s maritime defense and are a part of the ongoing AFP Modernization Program.
