As disclosed, the ceremony for the vessel, which was named Rügen, took place on March 18, 2025. The 67-meter-long ship will have a top speed exceeding 23 knots and an innovative liquefied natural; gas (LNG) propulsion system.

Rügen combines technical efficiency with a focus on sustainability. Its LNG propulsion underscores the role of liquefied natural gas as a transitional fuel for more climate-friendly shipping.

The vessel also meets the rigorous speed and functionality requirements set by the German Customs Directorate, ensuring effective monitoring of maritime traffic in the North and Baltic Seas, as well as within Germany’s Exclusive Economic Zone.

After extensive sea trials and comprehensive training for the crew, Rügen is now fully prepared for active duty. The vessel will be responsible for surveillance tasks and will also support the Central Maritime Accident Command in emergencies.

“The close collaboration with the General Customs Directorate has made it possible to create a vessel that sets new standards in the field of fast government vehicles while simultaneously meeting the highest environmental requirements,” Jan Oskar Henkel, Managing Director of Fassmer, said.
