Iraq’s TYPE 55 SAT coast guard boats enter service

The three TYPE 55 SAT boats, built by ENM KOREA in partnership with Turkish ARES Shipyard for the Iraqi Ministry of Defense, have officially entered service.

As disclosed, the coast guard boats feature an aluminum hull, they are able to achieve a speed of 30 knots and accommodate a 12-member special operations team along with their full equipment and specialized gear.

Additionally, they come equipped with remotely controlled weapon systems and ballistic protection to ensure self-defense against close-range threats.

Technical details include:

  • Length overall—17.20 meters
  • Beam—4.10 meters
  • Hull draught—1.00 meters
  • Main propulsion system: 2 x diesel engines & waterjets.

The unit is equipped with a RHIB boat for multi-mission capability such as boarding and interception. Beyond their primary operational concept, these boats are designed to successfully execute missions such as asymmetric warfare, territorial water control, and coordinated joint operations.

The TYPE 55 SAT oats have now commenced patrol duties in the UM Qaser/Iraq region, ARES Shipyard revealed.
